Monet's Garden

As a painter-gardener who was ‘ecstatic about flowers’, Monet’s passions were carried over into paintings such as ‘Wild Poppies’, ‘Water Lilies’ and ‘Painting from Nature’, scenes which are captured in real life in the grounds of his property in Giverny. He created his gardens to present the viewer with numerous perspectives, symmetries and colours. Since being handed over to the Académie des Beaux Arts in 1966, the gardens have been replanted as they once were and the Water Garden, with its famous Japanese Bridge and rectangular Clos Normand, have been maintained to show in real life the scenes that have been captured on canvas.
